Musician, Activist
Moby was born Richard Melville Hall in Harlem, NYC in 1965. His father gave him his nickname ‘Moby’ when he was ten minutes old, as a result of his hereditary relationship to Herman Melville. Moby started playing classical music and studying music theory when he was nine years old, and then came of age musically in the punk rock scene in and around NYC in the early eighties. He started making records under his own name in 1989, and has since sold over 20,000,000 albums.
In addition to making his own records, Moby has also produced and remixed artists as varied and disparate as David Bowie, Public Enemy, Britney Spears, Ozzy Osbourne, The Beastie Boys, and Daft Punk, to name a few. Moby also works with and supports a variety of nonprofits, including The Humane Society, Emily’s List, The ACLU, and The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function. His latest album, “Reprise” was released on Deutsche Grammophon and his documentary film “Moby Doc” is currently available everywhere.

Nina Jackel is a global activist and journalist effecting change for animals around the world through her non-profit media organization, Lady Freethinker, dedicated to exposing and stopping suffering of animals, humans and the planet. LFT has published thousands of news articles and petitions against animal cruelty, amassing over 20 million petition signatures calling on policymakers to strengthen and enforce laws against animal abuse.

Miyoko Schinner is the tenacious, award-winning vegan celebrity chef behind Miyoko’s. Her passion for her craft and mission is unrivaled. The publication of her groundbreaking book, Artisan Vegan Cheese, kicked off the start of the vegan cheese revolution.

Fed up with the overly-processed meat alternatives available, Mitchell and his co-founder knew they could raise the plant-based bar. After selling out the farmers markets every week on Denman Island, British Columbia, the bean butchers knew they were onto something. They brought their magic beans to Victoria and opened the Canadian West Coast’s first plant-based butchery. Mitchell grew up on Denman Island and now lives in Victoria B.C. He's responsible for the business operations and marketing of The Very Good Butchers.
Christie Lagally
Founder and CEO, Rebellyous Foods
Christie Lagally is the founder and CEO of Rebellyous Foods, a food production technology company working to make plant-based meat price-competitive with traditional chicken products. Ms. Lagally is a mechanical engineer and holder of multiple patents in manufacturing technology. She spent much of her career in the aerospace industry working on commercial airplanes and spacecraft in testing, design, and manufacturing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Previously, Ms. Lagally served as a Senior Scientist for the Good Food Institute uncovering the technical barriers in the development of plant-based meat and clean meat (i.e. cultured meat). Ms. Lagally holds Bachelor's degrees in Organizational Psychology and Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. She is also an active member of the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington, a co-founder of the Humane Voters of Washington (a political action committee) and serves as a Washington State Council Member for the Humane Society of the United States.

Nicole Sopko is Vice President of Upton’s Naturals, where she has worked since 2010 and manages the development, marketing, sales, and production of its meat alternatives, meals, and other plant-based products. Upton’s Naturals is an independently owned natural foods company with a focus on vegan values. Since its launch in 2006, the Chicago-based brand has grown from a regional business to an international name, selling in dozens of countries globally.
An ethical vegan of more than 20 years, Nicole is also a founding Board Member and current President of the Board for the Plant-Based Foods Association, the first trade association of its kind in the United States. Neuroscientist Lori Marino is internationally known for her work on animal behavior and the evolution of the brain and intelligence in dolphins and whales. Dr. Marino is president and executive director of The Whale Sanctuary Project, which will establish a model seaside sanctuary for cetaceans. She is also the founder and executive director of The Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy, and was formerly on the faculty of Emory University.

Dr. Jo Anderson became Faunalytics' Research Director in 2017 and since then has led and supervised studies of attitudes and behavior pertaining to animals and veganism, advocate retention, donation decision-making, and many other topics. Jo has many years of experience with a wide range of social science research methods and topics, as well as advanced training in statistical analysis. Her other roles include serving as the co-leader of the RECAP (Research to End Consumption of Animal Products) researcher collective, ad hoc research advisor to ProVeg and Animal Charity Evaluators' Animal Advocacy Research Fund, and Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada). Sean Thomas is the International Director of Investigations for Animal Equality, a nonprofit working with society, governments, and companies to end cruelty to farmed animals. Animal Equality is worldwide and has offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and India.
Sean is an experienced investigator who has been conducting investigations since 1997, working undercover at factory farms and slaughterhouses in the United States and in multiple countries, including Brazil, China, Italy, Germany, and Mexico.
Here in the U.S., Sean’s investigative work at a pig farm led to the first-ever felony animal cruelty conviction at a factory farm, and the first-ever felony animal cruelty conviction at a slaughterhouse: the Hallmark/Westland dairy cow slaughterhouse. You may recall – see what I did there – this investigation prompted the largest meat recall in U.S. history, and forced the company into bankruptcy.
He has been training investigators and managing field operations since 2014.

Officer Todd Stosuy
Field Services Manager, Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter
Officer Todd Stosuy has been the Field Services Manager for the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter in California since 2006, and has been an Animal Control Officer since 2003. Todd served on the Board of Directors for the National Animal Care and Control Association (NACA) from 2008 to 2017. He served as Vice President of NACA from 2010-2011 and President from 2011 to 2015. Todd has two undergraduate degrees from Rutgers University in Administration of Justice and Sociology with a minor in Criminology. During college Todd worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with an urban rescue squad. After graduating he worked as a first grade teacher in urban Philadelphia. This combination of college degrees and jobs working with underprivileged people has brought Todd to a unique position of enforcing animal related laws while also understanding and serving disadvantaged residents and the pets they love. Todd believes in working within the community and understanding and respecting the community’s culture, while at the same time trying to transform the challenges of that culture into strengths for the sake of the animals. During his career Todd has served as Incident Commander for the Animal Shelter during numerous large scale disasters within his community and has worked “boots on the ground” doing animal rescue in Haiti with the Animal Rescue Coalition of Haiti (ARCH). Todd has presented dozens of workshops across the United States, as well as Brazil and Australia. He currently works as a Law Enforcement Trainer for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and Code 3 Associates, training police officers, sheriffs deputies and prosecutors across the United States in investigating and prosecuting animal cruelty and neglect. Todd previously worked as a consultant with HSUS Pets For Life Program. Todd also worked with the state of Delaware Office of Animal Welfare in developing and implementing a Community Policing Program for all animal control officers in the state. Todd has investigated thousands of animal neglect and abuse complaints during his career, including multiple livestock cases. Several years ago Todd investigated and successfully prosecuted a slaughterhouse and feedlot for animal neglect which resulted in dozens of livestock animals being seized that now live happily at Farm Sanctuary and Animal Place.
Tim Woodward
Executive Director, Animal Rescue Corps
Tim Woodward was a key member of the founding team of Animal Rescue Corps in 2010. He was driven to help start the organization after learning how few resources exist for situations of large-scale animal suffering. After eight years serving as ARC’s Chief Operations Officer, Tim assumed leadership of the organization in 2018 and has strategic and operational responsibility for Animal Rescue Corps’ staff, programs, growth, and mission impact. Tim has worked in operations and administration for more than 30 years, specializing in building companies from the ground up with integral positions at several successful financial service startup companies in the greater San Francisco Bay area. In 2009, Tim left the for-profit sector to work full time for the benefit and protection of animals and shortly after became a founding member of ARC. Tim loves the dedicated teamwork and partnerships that are the hallmarks of Animal Rescue Corps, and key to the success of the organization. He is just as comfortable conducting field work and liaising with Sheriff’s offices as he is working at a desk. Tim was recognized by the national animal law advocacy group, Animal Legal Defense Fund, as one of America’s Top Ten Animal Defenders in 2020. Tim lives in Virginia with his husband and their rescued animals; in addition to his other advocacy work for animals, he promotes the compassion and joy in eating a plant-based diet.
Crystal Kozlak
Program Manager, Animal Place's Food for Thought Program
Crystal became inspired to go vegan after taking an animal ethics course during her undergrad at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She worked as a campaign coordinator for Animal Place's Brave the Cage campaign for two and a half years. She traveled to college campuses in the Southwestern United States to educate students about the egg industry. She is also the event producer of Vegan Oktoberfest 2021, and volunteers with Long Beach Water Wagon, delivering essential supplies to her homeless neighbors. She enjoys traveling for vegan food, relaxing in hot tubs, running, yoga, and spending quality time with her husband, Clark, and rescued Chihuahua, Akayla.

John Lewis is a world-renowned fitness expert who has spent over 2 decades in the health and fitness industry and played Division One college basketball. But before that, at the age of 13, he found himself at 315 pounds. Through hard work and dedication, he lost weight, and excelled in sports. He continued his streak of athletic excellence throughout his high school and college years with a full-ride scholarship to Harris-Stowe State College and later an MBA from Nova Southeastern University.

Shannon Falconer is a scientist and entrepreneur dedicating her experience in biochemistry and molecular biology to change the world for animals. As the CEO and co-founder of Because Animals, a biotech start-up creating nutritious, sustainable, cultured meat pet food, she is on a mission to eliminate the use of farmed animals in the pet food supply.
She has a master’s degree in Biochemistry, a PhD in Chemical Biology, and was a post-doctoral research fellow at Stanford University prior to co-founding Because, Animals in 2016. She has also spent decades in the animal rescue community and is a fur mom to two dogs, Gaia and Nori, who are both failed fosters.

Mary Finelli
President, Fish Feel
Mary Finelli is founder and president of Fish Feel, the first organization devoted to promoting the recognition of fish as sentient beings deserving of respect and compassion. Despite fish constituting the largest category of animals used for food (including as farmed animal feed), and despite huge numbers of fish harmed for research, “sport,” and aquaria, their well-being receives very little attention, even from the animal protection community. Fish Feel primarily serves to help educate the public as to why these animals are deserving of our admiration and appreciation, the immense problems caused by the exploitation of them, and how we can help them.
Mary is a long-time animal rights activist with a B.S. in Animal Science. She has worked with various animal protection organizations, primarily focusing on farmed animals, and chairs the Save the Rays Coalition. Mary was the Producer of Farmed Animal Watch, a weekly online news digest sponsored by numerous animal protection organizations. She co-wrote a chapter of In Defense of Animals: The Second Wave, and has contributed a chapter to the soon-to-be published book, Vegan Voices.

Kathy Hessler

Kathy Hessler is a clinical professor of law at Lewis & Clark Law School. She is the first faculty member hired to teach animal law full time in a law school. She received her J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary and her LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center. She is the Director of the Animal Law Clinic and the Aquatic Animal Law Initiative, as well as the faculty advisor for the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and Animal Law Review at Lewis & Clark.
Professor Hessler co-authored ANIMAL LAW IN A NUTSHELL (with Pamela Frasch and Sonia Waisman), ANIMAL LAW – NEW PERSPECTIVES ON TEACHING TRADITIONAL LAW (with Joyce Tischler, Pamela Hart, and Sonia Waisman) and the amicus briefs submitted in the U.S. v. Stevens and Justice v. Gwendolyn Vercher cases. She has written numerous law review and other articles and teaches and lectures widely across the U.S. and internationally and is working on a new book, AQUATIC ANIMAL LAW.
Professor Hessler was a board member with the Animal Legal Defense Fund; helped found the Animal Law Committee of the Cuyahoga County Bar; was the chair and a founder of the Animal Law Section and the Balance in Legal Education Section of the American Association of Law Schools (AALS). She was also a co-chair of the Clinical Legal Education Section of the AALS and is on the board of the Center for Teaching Peace.

Arturo is the founder and CEO of biotech food company, Clara Foods, based in Silicon Valley. Clara is working towards a disruptive advance in food technology by developing real animal proteins without the use of a single animal––starting with the world’s first animal-free egg proteins. Clara’s precision fermentation technology enables the world to benefit from the taste and nutrition of animal proteins while requiring a fraction of the water, land, and greenhouse gas footprint used compared to the current factory farming model. Clara has been named one of the 50 hottest tech companies by Crunchbase and one of the 50 NEXT companies to disrupt the world. Prior to founding Clara, Arturo served under Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the investment bank, Credit Suisse in Mumbai, India. He has been named to Forbes 30 Under 30, the Person of the Year by the National Hispanic Institute, and one of 10 Latinos who inspire the United States by BBC World News. Anne Palermo

Anne started her career as an asset manager at Morgan Stanley and later moved on to partner in a hedge fund that took advantage of sophisticated arbitrage opportunities. Afterwards she moved on to work the prop desk at BMO capital markets, but left soon after to pursue her passion for entrepreneurship by going to culinary school and learning food tech/food science. Upon graduation, Anne went on to found her first CPG company. While here, she developed proprietary tech surrounding the manufacturing processes of chocolate. She then pivoted to health and wellness with the creation of proprietary technology surrounding the formulation of a high protein candy that didn’t use protein isolates as FDA regulations prohibit their use in candy. This allowed her products to be the only high protein, better-for-you, products to be sold in the candy aisle. She led her team to a multi-million dollar run rate within the first year of re-launching a category disrupting product. Her ability to see patterns in the environment has led her to identify the market white space for whole cut seafood alternatives and why she is dedicating herself to the mission of advancing technology aimed at taking animals out of the food system.
Dr. Ka Yi Ling

Dr. Ling Ka Yi is a developmental and stem cell biologist with more than 10 years of expertise in tracing and studying stem cells during development. Ka Yi received the prestigious A*STAR’s National Science Scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor’s and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She worked closely with stem cell and developmental biology experts like James Thomson, Davor Solter and Barbara Knowles, and following graduation, Ka Yi did her postdoc at IMCB, A*STAR in Singapore.
She is an active science communicator since her days in Madison; and frequently takes part in science outreach and speaks at food sustainability and career management events. She also did a podcast called “Science Now” and “Life after PhD” with fellow colleagues and scholars. Ka Yi is passionate about marrying her experience in biotech research and her love for food to produce sustainable food products. In August 2018, she co-founded a cell-based crustaceans startup called Shiok Meats, along with Dr. Sandhya Sriram. She was recognized as one of MIT Tech Review’s “Innovators under 35 in Asia” 2020, the “Women and the Ocean: Changemakers” challenge 2020,” the Great Women Of Our Times 2020 by Women Weekly, and Gen T list 2020.

Jane Velez-Mitchell is a nationally known TV journalist, best-selling author and the founder and content editor of JaneUnchained, a multi-platform social media news outlet that produces original video content on animal rights and the vegan/compassionate lifestyle. Her reporting on animal issues has earned four Genesis Awards from HSUS, a Mercy for Animals Compassionate Leadership Award, and PETA’s Nanci Alexander Award, among many others. For six years she hosted her own show on CNN Headline News, and reported for the nationally syndicated show Celebrity Justice, where she did numerous stories on animal issues championed by celebrities. She has multiple local Emmys for her work at both KCAL-TV in Los Angeles and WCBS-TV in New York.
She is the author of four books, two of which are New York Times bestsellers, including her memoir, iWant: My Journey from Addiction and Overconsumption to a Simpler, Honest Life. She directed and produced the documentary Anita Velez: Dancing Through Life which won a Gracie award in 2001 and more recently Countdown to Year Zero, a documentary featuring Dr. Sailesh Rao, Greta Thunberg, Jane Goodall, and other change-making environmentalists. Vegan activist Gwenna Hunter is the founder of Vegans of LA, Los Angeles’ largest community of vegans and plant-based eaters, and founder of Vegans for Black Lives Matter, which she created to show solidarity and drive solution-oriented conversations that inspire new thoughts. Vegans for Black Lives Matter aims to show that vegans care deeply for the plight of humans just as we do animals, and that we are capable of both simultaneously, demonstrating compassion to one another, and allowing each other’s voices to be heard. As a Black Lives-centered group, vegans on every walk of their journey are welcome, whether they choose their path for health, the environment, the animals, spirituality and/or science.
She is also the Los Angeles Vegan Food Aid Coordinator for Vegan Outreach, and manages Los Angeles Health Save, a local chapter of the worldwide Save Movement that promotes a healthy vegan diet as a powerful tool for individual and systemic change. She also provides mutual food aid via Animal Save Movement.

Michael C. Dorf is the Robert S. Stevens Professor of Law at Cornell Law School, where he teaches constitutional law, federal courts, and related subjects. He has authored or co-authored six books and over one hundred scholarly articles and essays for law journals and peer-reviewed science and social science journals. He also frequently writes for the general public. In addition to occasional contributions to The New York Times, USA Today, CNN.com, The Los Angeles Times, and other wide-circulation publications, Professor Dorf has been writing a bi-weekly column since 2000 and publishes a popular blog, Dorf on Law. Dorf received his undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard. He served as a law clerk for Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and then for Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court. He maintains an active pro bono practice mostly consisting of writing Supreme Court briefs.

Sherry F. Colb is C.S. Wong Professor of Law at Cornell University School of Law. She earned an A.B. from Columbia College (Valedictorian) and a J.D. from Harvard Law School (magna cum laude) and clerked for Associate Justice Harry A. Blackmun of the United States Supreme Court. Her research and teaching interests center on issues of constitutional criminal procedure (especially the Fourth Amendment), animal rights, sexual equality, and evidence. She composes a bi-weekly column for Verdict.Justia.com as well as occasional posts on the blog, Dorf on Law. Her two books about veganism and animal rights are Beating Hearts: Abortion and Animal Rights (Columbia University Press 2016) (co-authored with Michael C. How to Save Bees (and how not to)
Charlotte De Keyzer, Ph.D.
Ecology Scientist
Charlotte de Keyzer is an interdisciplinary researcher, a science communicator, and a citizen science program director. She received her undergraduate degree with high distinction from the University of Toronto in 2014, specializing in ecology and evolutionary biology. Early in her PhD at U of T, Charlotte conducted fieldwork in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Despite this being a perfect location for conducting long-term ecological and climate change research on flowering plants and pollinators, Charlotte became fascinated by the idea that urban environments could also contribute to our understanding of climate change ecology. Her experience in Colorado was formative, not only for yielding her first scientific research publications, but also for developing innovative questions that were ripe for investigation in cities.
With renewed creativity and purpose, Charlotte launched a Toronto-based citizen science program called Urban Redbud in 2017 to track the flowering time of an important early flowering tree species. At the same time, Charlotte held an advisory role to the City of Toronto and helped create the City’s evidence-based Pollinator Protection Strategy. Opportunities to communicate science and engage the public in her research helped fuel Charlotte’s passions to pursue interdisciplinary collaborations in biodiversity conservation and create an anti-misinformation website on “bee-washing.” Charlotte's work on bee-washing has two goals: 1) to educate the public on the wide diversity of native, wild bees in North America and 2) inform consumers of false advertising on bee-friendly products and initiatives claiming to "save the bees."

Christopher “Soul” Eubanks

Christopher “Soul” Eubanks is a climate, human, and animal rights activist who has dedicated himself to advocacy work that combats all forms of injustice. After learning the horrors of animal exploitation, he went vegan and became engaged in community organizing in Atlanta, where he was already a noted emcee and lyricist within the community’s underground hip-hop scene. He speaks at universities and corporate events, co-organized Atlanta’s first-ever animal rights march, and most recently received a People’s Fund grant to challenge the normalization of animal oppression with creative content and media. He uses education, creativity, and public speaking as tools to advocate for the earth, a vegan diet, and ending all forms of injustice.

Philip Wollen is a humanitarian, philanthropist, animal and earth rights activist who has received countless awards for his work including the Medal of the Order of Australia, Australian of the Year in Victoria, the Albert Schweitzer Award, and is an Honorary Fellow of the Oxford Centre of Animal Ethics. The former vice president of Citibank now heads the Winsome Constance Kindness Trust, an organization that supports and nurtures social change groups with financial grants and capacity building.
